The Kefalos area is famous for a string of scenic bays—think turquoise water, sandy stretches, and viewpoints that photographers love. Many visitors hop between two or three spots in one day: a morning swim, a midday break in the shade, and a late afternoon return when the light softens.

Because names and access points can be confusing for first-time guests, a local driver is often the easiest way to match your group to the right beach—especially if you are traveling with children, older guests, or lots of beach gear.

Culture in plain sight: Agios Stefanos

One of Kefalos’s most memorable sights is the early Christian basilica ruins at Agios Stefanos—right by the sea, with wide-open views. It is the kind of place where history feels tangible: foundations, columns, and the sound of waves in the background.

Official island information describes the twin basilicas and their significance for Kos’s archaeological story. Even if you are not a “history person”, the setting alone is worth a short stop.

Kastri islet & the small chapel

A short distance offshore, the tiny islet of Kastri is one of Kos’s postcard moments: a small white chapel on a rock, surrounded by deep blue water. Depending on conditions, some visitors enjoy photographing it from the shore; others plan a boat experience separately.
